先週末

みなさん、こんばんは！
先週末はいそがしくて、とても楽しかったです。先週末の金曜日にじゅぎょうのあとはともだちとレストランにハンバーガーをたべにいって,

DPACでコンサートにいって、ともだちのうちにパーティーをしにいきました。
コンサートはクラシカルおんがくで、おもしろくて、とてもよかったです。

ばんごはんはおいしくて、パーティーはとてもたのしかったです。
土曜日にともだちとクリスマスのパーティーいって、私のへやでさんじかんべんきょうしました。それからテレビをみて、本をよんで、ねました。
日曜日に学生かいかんでともだちとあって、しゅくだいをして、アルバイトをしました。
アルバイトはNDHでします。まい日曜日にごごごじからはちじまでアルバイトをします。

アルバイトのあとにりょうにかえて、ねました。

週末

おはよう　みなさん！
先週末の金曜日のばんに　エディーストリートのチポルテールに　ばんごはんを　たべにいって、私のうちに　えいがを　みに　かえりました。ごぜん　にじごろ　ねました。
土曜日の　ごぜん　じゅうじごろ　おきて、りょうのそとで　ともだちに　あって、かくしょくに　あさごはんを　たべに　いきました。ごご　さんじごろ　スダジアムに　フットボールゲームを　みに　いきました。フットボールゲームは　さむかったです、でも、あまりざんねんじゃありませんでした。スタジアムで　ホット チョコレートを　のみまし。とても　おいしですね！　それから　私のりょうに　ルームメイトと　かえって、がくしょくに　いって、りょうしんと　りょうしんのともだちに　あって、ばんごはんを　たべました。日曜日の　ごぜん　じゅうじに　おきて、　レストランに　ともだちと　あさごはんを　たべに　いきました。それから、りょうに　かえって、　しゅくだいを　しました。ごご　ごじに　アルバイトに　いきました。それから、りょうに　かえって、シャワーをあびました。

日本のうち ＆ アメリカの

アメリカのうちと　日本のは　テレビと　でんわと　テーブルが　あります。ときどき　 テレビのまえに　ソフアが　あります .   Kitchens in 日本のうち have ちさい　ovens compared to the アメリカの。日本のうち also have rice cookers, while アメリカの do not.　アメリカ人は　あまり　ごはんを　たべます。　でも、　日本人は　よく　ごはんを　たべます。アメリカのうち also usually have one bathroom for the toilet and shower, and the bathtub and shower are combined. でも、日本のうち have a separate room for the toilet, and have a shower outside the bathtub.

わたしのうちの中のテレビのまえには　大きいソファが　あります。キッチンの中には　テーベルが　あります。でも、リビングルームにも　大きいテーベルが　あります。

キッチンのテーベルでは　あさごはんを　たべます、そして、リビングルームのテーベルでは　ばんごはんを　たべます。We eat together for ばんごはん at the 大きいテーベル, でもfor あさごはん it is busy and everyone leaves the house at different times, so we do not use the big table then. 

わたしのうちのへやの中には　バンクベッドが　あります. I share a room with my sister so we use those instead of regular beds. わたしのへやにも　本だなと　たんすと　つくえと　いすが

あります。

This weekend

しゅまつ　そとは　とても　さむいでしたよ！　でも、すきです。　

わたしは　スタジアムで　フートボールトゲームを　みました。とても、いいでしたね。

いつも ノートルダム大学のフートボールトゲームに　いきますよ。

にちようびに　キャラクターベんとうイベントに　いきました。べんとうは　おいしいでした。

かいようびは　ハロウィンですね！

My Hometown

こんばんは！
わたしのまちは　ラ　ポートです。
インデイアナしゅうに　あります。
わたしのまちは　ちいさい　まちです。そして、きれいな　まちです。でも、まちは　あまり　ゆうめじゃありません。
わたしのまちのとしょかんは　きえれいな　たてものです。
ゆうびんきょくは　ふるい　たてもので。
わたしのうちは　しろい　うちです。そして、きれいな　うちです。
わたしのまちは　イタリアのレストランが　あります。でも、にほんのレストランが　ありません。

Katakana Research

こんばんは！
Today I looked up several different websites that might have katakana phrases for me to write about. I liked up the Japanese websites for several companies, including: Starbucks, McDonald's, Hello Kitty, and Amazon. On the Amazon website there was some katakana that was directly related to an English phrase, such as マイストア but otherwise there was a lot of kanji and hiragana on the front webpage that surprised me. It seemed like the Hello Kitty website had the most on the page with the character names. Starbucks had a lot, probably the most overall, and they seemed the easiest to connect with English equivalents, such as ”コーヒー”　＆　”アーマンドミルク”. It had various other words related to food that were English words in katakana. McDonald's mostly had a mix between kanji and katakana.
I put some pictures to illustrate the ones that had more katakana/mix of katakana and other characters.

There were a lot of katakana phrases on the Starbucks website on other pages.
It was good practice reading that website because it was semi familiar and there were often translations provided in English.

そして、じゅうじに　SYRへ　いきました。そして、うちに　かえりました。
どようびに　ごせん　じゅうじに　おきました。　そして、あさごはんを　たべました。でも、ひるごはんを　たべませんでした。ごご　よじごろ　としょかんに　いきました。
でも　しゅくだいを　しませんでした。
まいしゅうの　どようびに　フットボールを　みます。
まいしゅうの　にちようびに　ぜんぜん　テレビを　みません。
きょう　じゅういちじはんに　あさごはんを　たべました。
そして、　ごご　さんじごろ　しゅくだいを　しました。

Everyday Routine

こんばんは！

わたしは　まいにち　ごぜん　はちじよんじゅうごふんに　おきます。
あまり　あさごはんを　たべません。

I tried my best, but I wasn't sure how to say certain things so it's a bit general and repetitive. I wrote coffee and shower in katakana.

Japanese Introduction/Culture

はじめまして。

One of the things I love about Japanese culture is the food. I love Japanese food! My favorites include すし and dumplings! My favorite kind of すしhas spicy tuna in it, but I also really like any kind of すし with tuna. My favorite kind of dumplings (I think they are called gyoza?) have chicken or vegetables in them!

The only Japanese movies I really know that much about are the movies Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, which were directed by Hayao Miyazaki. I watched them a long time ago, because my brother really liked the director. I remember enjoying them, although I do not remember them too well since it has been a long time. I will have to rewatch them soon. I also really like the way they are animated. I think I would like to see more Japanese movies!

Why Japanese

I am excited to start learning Japanese for the first time ever this year. I really love learning about other cultures and languages so I am really pumped for the class. I really want to go into diplomacy after college and I know that knowing another language would be extremely helpful. I decided Japanese would be good because it is a language I would not have any other chance to learn. Other languages, especially Romance languages, would probably be easier to come by later on, but Japanese would not be. Japanese is really interesting because it is based on such a completely different writing system than English. It also does not employ the complicated tonal system which Chinese uses, which I like. I also wanted to really challenge myself and I think that Japanese will really do so. I look forward to trying to meet that challenge as it comes. Japanese culture is also really fascinating to me in how it differs from Western culture, and I cannot wait to learn more about it.
